Clarity Principal Adam
Pannell Co-Authors Clinical Study On Disease Management
9/7/2007
(ATLANTA, GA) – Clarity Benefit Consulting principal
and Health Management practice leader, Adam Pannell,
recently co-authored a clinical study on disease management
that was presented at the Aerospace Medical Association
Annual Meeting in New Orleans in May 2007. The study,
co-authored with Dr. Thomas Bettes of American Airlines
and Sukhwant Khanuja of Carematix Inc., was designed
to explore the uses of telemetric monitoring of blood
pressure in commercial pilots. The first phase of the
study focused on morbidity associated with hypertension
using several web-based remote monitoring solutions.
The program helped raise patient awareness of hypertension
and facilitated clinical monitoring and intervention.
Clarity,
a national leader in employee benefit consulting, is
pleased to support Mr. Pannell’s
role in this important study.
“We believe that our study presents data which
support the efficacy of wellness monitoring solutions
for patients
at high risk for hypertension,” stated Pannell. “Our
participants had a positive experience and clearly
noticed the benefits of the program. Even in a small
sample size such as this study, a decrease in medical
claims and improved pharmacy utilization was observed.
The results of the study are important to all of
us in the industry and we strongly believe that patients,
and their employers, will benefit as these types
of
technology-driven health and productivity solutions
continue to evolve,” concluded Pannell.
“We are definitely pleased with the results
of the study and hope to expand the program to a broader
segment
of the population in the future,” observed
Dr. Bettes, Medical Director at American Airlines. “Moreover,
we are pleased with the work Adam Pannell devoted
to this project. We have had a relationship with
Adam
for several years and were not surprised when he
brought us this creative idea. But as many large
employers
know, ideas from consultants and vendors abound,
and what is often missing is the implementation
and execution
of those ideas. That was what was so refreshing
about this project. Not only did Adam proactively
bring us
the idea after learning about some of the challenges
we face keeping our pilots FAA certified, he managed
the project, coordinating resources from American
Airlines, WebMD, Carematix and our data warehouse
vendor, Ingenix,
ensuring that the idea became a reality,” explained
Dr. Bettes.
Adam Pannell joined Clarity in March 2007, bringing
a wealth of experience to the Clarity team gained
in various roles in the employee benefits industry
over
the past fifteen years. Prior to joining Clarity,
Mr. Pannell was Director of Strategic Accounts
with WebMD,
where he assisted large employers with strategy,
design and implementation of WebMD’s integrated health
and benefits platform. Prior to Mr. Pannell’s
experience at WebMD, he held the position of principal
with Mercer Human Resource Consulting. Mr. Pannell
has a Bachelor of Science degree from California State
University, Sacramento and an MBA from Southern Methodist
University.
